Purchasing the hint adds a green marker with a magnifying glass pointing directly at the object the player is looking for. If the player has a quest with hidden objects active and has trouble locating the object, they can buy a hint from Charlotte for 100. Apparently (according to the Ranger) Charlotte was always better than the Captain at tying knots.
